Backpack Luggage
Your luggage is not only useful in carrying your things from one place to another, but it also states a lot about you. Your luggage is an extension of your personality, the way you travel, your skills in organization and also personal taste. In that way your luggage is quite distinctive.
A backpack or a rucksack is the simplest form of luggage. A backpack luggage is a sack made of canvas or parachute cloth and secured with two straps that go over the shoulders. Some types of backpack luggage have only one shoulder strap like an ordinary bag.
Backpack luggage can be used to carry heavy loads for long periods of time as the entire weight of the bag rests on the carrier’s back and is evenly distributed to the shoulders and hip.
Backpack luggage is of four varieties; frameless, external frame, internal frame and bodypack.
A frameless backpack luggage is a simple bag attached to shoulder straps. These are used for transportation and have varying carrying capacities. The most basic design has one pocket only with webbing or cordage straps. More complex designs have additional pockets, waist straps, padded shoulder supports and cushioned backs. This is the most inexpensive kind of backpack luggage and is used for hiking, camping and mountaineering.
An external frame backpack luggage has a stiff frame which is hoisted onto the shoulders. This frame in turn supports a cloth or leather sack which carries the items. Modern frames are made of lightweight metal tubes like aluminum, titanium or scandium alloys. An external frame backpack luggage has an open structure that keeps the frame from contacting the body. This leads to improved ventilation and less sweatiness making it easier for the user to carry it through long distances.
The internal frame backpack luggage is the most recent innovation. This consists of a large cloth section in which a small frame is included. The frames are usually comprised of strips of metal or plastic that mold to the user’s back to provide a better fit. The close fitting frame allows the load to be closely attached to the user to give predictable movement for the baggage.
A bodypack is a smaller version mostly used by students and are primarily used for carrying books and learning equipments. They may come equipped with pockets for water bottles, i-pods, mobile phones and even stationery.
Backpack luggage is most commonly seen as carry-on bags for air travelling especially for frequent flyers. They allow more mobility and are far more compact than suitcases.
